Abstract

The process of patrimonialización of the municipal offices consolidates in century XVII with the increases and carried out massive sales by the Crown. From the social point of view, this opens to channels of social ascent for people coming from the world of the commerce andthe businesses, while on the other hand it contributes to consolidate a group oligarchical, powerful, privileged and (relatively) closed that tends to be perpetuated in the power. Reproduction and renovation are, then, the two poles of a same process. The objective of this article is to see what it happened with the offices of city councillorship of Santiago during that century through study of the mechanisms of access and crossing of the offices that integrate it.
