Abstract
Recently, the law (LO5/1995) has been passed to allow for subsequent modifications during the initial trial period for the reintroduction of the Spanish jury system. In the preliminary considerations, the Law stablishes the posibility of changes in the characterization of the Jury system after an initial test period. In this context, the quality of the group decision making was analyzed in the existing literature in relation to jury size and decision rules (i.e., Zeisel, 1971; Hastie et al., 1983). Nevertheless, a complete research taking into account all the actual posibilities has never been considered. In this study, we have compared the jury performance with the main phenomenological characterizations. Our results support that twelve-member juries under unanimous decision rule, reach a more consistent decision.
