Abstract

The boom in interest in health care and the knowledge of new cultures through unique experiences, become increasingly entrenched needs within the interests of tourists. In this way, Ecuador through its portion of the Amazon, which together is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, seeks to solve these needs through the Water Route or Yaku Ñambi, in which attractions, activities and tourist services are mixed under the same theme, water, a sacred element for the ancestral cultures that inhabit the area. The main objective of this study is the description and study of the Water Route. The methodology used consists of a theoretical-exploratory analysis based on data obtained from different primary and secondary sources supplied by the main regulatory bodies of tourism activity. Finally, the results highlight the active participation of indigenous communities as service providers and promoters of tourism.
