Abstract

The main objective of this thesis is to focus on improve the knowledge of the dry beach behavior and characterize the equilibrium state in term of governing processes. Firstly, the main involved factors related to the dry beach dynamics are identified, and a proper framework to study the equilibrium is set by identifying the most common shapes and features that the dry beach profile presents. Then, it is investigated how the dry beach profile accommodates as response to changes in controlling factors such as wave climate and sediment characteristics, and the fluctuations of the dry beach profile under a specific wave climate in both intra and inter annual scales are studied. Finally it is analyzed how the mean surrounding conditions -i.e., wave climate and sediment characteristics- modulate the long term equilibrium of the dry beach profile, and it is developed a parametric equation that allows predicting long term morphologic indexes such as width, slope and height of equilibrium.
