Abstract

This thesis proposal is to analyse the differential lexicon in the Val de Xalma, also known as Valle de Jálama or Val do Ellas. In these surroundings of northwestern Spanish Spain are Valverde del Fresno, Eljas and San Martín de Trevejo, three villages retain a language of Galician-Portuguese descent and a Leonese influence called Fala, Valego or Xalimego. Thus, to achieve the proposed objective, the work was developed in two steps. First, a questionnaire was written based on data provided by the specialized bibliography and previous conversations with local speakers; Next, the vocabulary was collected through dialectal surveys of informants of different sex and age from the three points. Secondly, a lexical corpus was selected in order to carry out a study from an etymological point of view and in comparison with the varieties and languages (Spanish, Galician, Portuguese, Asturian-Leonese, falas of Spanish Extremadura) related by their origin or another contact. This perspective provides information on the constitutive characteristics of Fala and their origin. On the other hand, the comparison of the answers among the informants of different profile provides an overview of the conservation level and the influence of the official language.
