Abstract

The concept of a reaction network, as a set of interactions with associated rate functions, goes beyond the classical chemical kinetics, and provides a framework for the modelling of many biological phenomena. Compartamental pharmacokinetic models, for example, cand be used to determinate the evolution of substances administered externally to a living organism, and mechanism-based mathematical models are central for understanding biology at the systems level.
