Abstract

Twenty five years ago, Ricardo Marín laboratory of the Department of Automation and Systems Engineering of University of Vigo began to take its first steps towards its current configuration in the era of industry 4.0, mechatronics and robotics. This laboratory has the particularity of having several prototype machines made with industrial parameters, both in terms of their mechanical and automation hardware configuration, as well as their automation software. The systems and prototypes of this laboratory have evolved in parallel to their equivalent technologies and solutions in the industrial environment, in aspects such as integration and digitalization, the adoption of mechatronic approaches for motion control problems using industrial servosystems, industrial safety, etc. A review of the systems in Ricardo Marín Laboratory and their historical evolution reproduces the evolutions experimented by industrial systems. This article makes this journey highlighting the technological milestones.
