Abstract

Bullying is a major social issue that occurs in educational settings all around the world. Its high prevalence and the severity of its consequences have outlined bullying as a main concern pertaining children and adolescents’ psycho-emotional health. Since the first studies in the 70s, interest in conceptualizing this phenomenon has widely increased, so do the number of publications. In Spain, first studies on bullying appeared in the late 90s, and despite the rise of awareness, it is not a thoroughly studied subject. The objective of this research is to portray Spanish research on bullying. For this aim, a documental review of papers with Spanish authorship and indexed in Scopus during the period 1990-2015 was conducted. A total of 290 papers, written by 689 researchers stemming from 73 institutions were analysed. The most productive institutions were University of Seville and University of Córdoba. Moreover, these universities hold the most productive researchers. Most of the papers (88.5%) were multiauthored (M = 3.61, DT = 2.59), being also more cited in comparison with single-authored papers, t(288, N = 290) = -4.280, p = .0001. International collaboration yielded higher visibility, this is, a greater number of citations, t(288, N = 290) = 1.988, p = .05. The analysis of the collaboration networks revealed the existence of six different research groups. Only two of them collaborated with each other, showing a significant inbreeding publication pattern.
