Abstract

Background. From the need of offering alternatives for a group of children at risk of social exclusion, in order to give them some tools that might facilitate their development as individuals so as their integration into the society; we have proposed to design, enforce and assess a theatre program for the purpose of encourage their cooperation and creativity skills. Method. The subject matter of this study was analyzed through an ethnographic design. For the implementation of the program, we followed a project-based methodology, where every activity was oriented to the collective creation of a musical. The basic methodological techniques were group and cooperative strategies. Results. The pretest-posttest analysis indicates increased creativity and decreased cooperation. However, the data collected during each of the sessions indicates an increase in both. This contradiction may be due to the pretest overvaluation and answering according to social desirability and the posttest based on experience results, by which we mean that they have become aware of what it means to cooperate during the process itself. Conclusions. Based on the results, we can suggest that using drama as a therapeutic resource in groups at risk of social exclusion is useful to encourage cooperation and creativity.
