Abstract

Evaluative research on relevant educational aspects for improving the academic performance of students is an essential action to not only identify and diagnose educational, social, institutional or personal needs but also to promote and strengthen effective changes in educational practices in the classroom or in the Educational Center. The objective of our study is to design and to implement didactic units using an active and collaborative methodology designing integrated tasks and activities in order to determine their efficacy in the consolidation of the different basic competences from the area of Physical Education taking into account the important benefits of physical activity on quality of life of individuals and the lack of public policy when it comes to effective applications (Klein, 2003; Klein and Hardman, 2008). For this we have used an evaluative research to assess the effectiveness of the proposed design and determine the explanatory or causal relations between facts. Hence those are designed with clear objectives and have been directly related to the different basic competences. The project involved students in third and fourth of ESO in a concerted Educational Center. We used multiple measurement instruments (questionnaires, scales of observation, assessment rubrics) that allowed us to combine the techniques and to make a saturation of the information. The results suggest a significant improvement in all analyzed basic skills, so we can conclude that when projects are designed with activities that are meaningful to the students, which carry a difficulty index they feel can be overcome and that involve effort, energy and acceptable time job that improves academic performance.
