Abstract

The study about personal pronoun acquisition is but one of the ways to investigate language acquisition and development, since personal pronouns are as well linguistic categories. A child does not master these categories as soon as he does other language categories, though he makes use of them very early. However, we may suppose that at first the child only makes use of the personal pronoun on its deixis function. So he needs to express it on interpersonal communication (in the present and with the help of the communicative context). That is why many investigators make sure (Clark, 1774, 1978; Charney, 1980, etc.) that the personal pronoun, in its sense of linguistic function, cannot be acquired until eight or nine years of age. The present study is about the Spanish languages personal pronouns acquisition and development. We try to find out how these categories are acquired by children. We observed how they express these categories when the linguistic function of these pronouns is acquired, what the process is in changing from deixis function to linguistic function. It is a longitudinal and transversal study. We observed three children from two to three and half years old.
