Abstract

Making use of idioms when speaking a certain language shows a high level of competence. In order to attain such a level, language users must know perfectly not only the semantic features of idioms but also their pragmatic features, being one of them the connotation of language level. It is necessary to make a description of such uses to guide speakers. In this paper we aim at approaching this topic through the analysis of phraseological units just as they appear in texts. The determination of the register of the texts where idioms occur is essential to be able to come to a description of uses in phraseology. Our aim is to establish the basics of a method of analysis based on the type and subject of texts, which takes us away from the intuition that can be seen in enquiries on the consideration of idioms
