Abstract
The New Institutional Economics has emerged as one of the most solid research programs in economics in the last decades of the XX Century. This program modified the assumptions of substantive rationality that the mainstream in economics assumed on human behavior. This article develops the theoretical foundations that the approach of the New Institutional Economy maintains about the human behavior. The notions of bounded rationality, mental models, institutions, cognitive path¿s dependence, beliefs and learning occupy the agenda that this paper incorporates. These theoretical foundations breaks the imperialism of economics and facilitate the dialogue between different social sciences.
