Abstract

The adaptation of the firms to the new competitive environment, where information represents an important strategic resource, lies, in many instances, in the cooperation with other companies in order to improve on time and quafity. In fact, Electronic Data Interchange may be considered as a cooperation philosophy which will permit the exploitation of competitive advantages in the interconnection of the value chains of the firms that are coaperating. This situation causes the processes to go beyond the limits of each firm, and the information system must be adapted, following the trend of the processes and not that of the organizations. This paper analyses the stages that must be followed in order to make a redesign of interorganizational information systems that will permt a correct implantation of information and communication technologies which will help firms to be more competitive
