Abstract

In this paper, we investigate how Primary School students value the study activity, their main motives for study and their self-perception as students. The sample was composed by 180 Primary School students, from second, fourth and sixth grades. Data was obtained by a questionnaire of open and close questions. The main results show that Primary School students give a high value to study, both because it permits them to learn or obtain better academic results, and because its potential utility for the life in the future. In addition, the motivation to study is, in general, high and independent from the perception that their teachers-tutors have about their overall academic motivation and their academic achievement.
