Zusammenfassung

This study analyses the relationship between motivation (subjective value and perceived control), class-related academic emotions (enjoyment, hope, anxiety, and shame), and academic performance (mean score). The sample consisted of 472 university undergraduates aged 17 to 38 years who were assessed at three time intervals. Analysis of structural equations for all variables was performed. The results reveal that the subjective value positively predicted all the emotions. Perceived control was a positive predictor of pleasant emotions and a negative predictor of unpleasant ones. Emotions predicted performance, i.e., positively predicted pleasant ones and negatively with unpleasant ones. Moreover, the direct effects of the subjective value and perceived control on performance were positive. As for the indirect effects, these were positive and significant for perceived control. The findings and their educational implications are discussed.
