Abstract

The present article analyses the sources and characteristics of the (double) prescriptibility that, having been established in the 1980s, today rules the lexical usages of Galizan-Portuguese language in Galiza. To this aim, the concepts of enunciative, propositional and pragmatic prescription are here introduced. The conclusions of the analysis are that the lexical prescription exerted by Isolationism (mainly of propositional character) is inefficient, internally inconsistent, arbitrary, unstable and functionally inadequate, whereas the lexical prescription exerted by the Reintegrationist school (mainly of enunciative character) is efficient, consistent and stable. This notwithstanding, the paper goes on to pinpoint some (minor) defficiencies in the lexical prescription established by the Comissom Lingüística da AGAL, which should be solved by this academic institution.
