Abstract

Objective: This review has aimed to investigate whether physiotherapy is an effective intervention for reducing symptoms of shoulder impingement syndrome. Search strategy: The search was conducted in February 2012 in the databases available from the University of Vigo. The following were used to gather scientific evidence: Crochrane, SCOPUS, PubMed, WOS and MEDLINE. Study selection: We found 12 articles that met the criteria established: scientific articles that were available in full text, in English or Spanish, which were published from 2007 to February 2012. Those that did not adhere to the study, that were present in other databases, literature reviews and those that did not meet the inclusion criteria were excluded. Summary of results: Among those which we found, there were different effective techniques for the treatment, such as ultrasound therapy or laser or other manual therapies. Conclusion: We found various effective techniques that help decrease pain or increase function or simultaneously helped both. The combination of different techniques may be the most efficient action to take
