Abstract
MATERIALS AND METHOD: A cross descriptive study on the target sample made up of 646 students of all degrees from Vigo University, Orense Campus. They all voluntarily and anonymously answered a structured survey designed to identify social variables related to sexual violence. The data were analyzed with the program SPSS/15. RESULTS: The mean age of the student body is 20.86 years old (SD= 2.19), being the 29.39% males. 3.4% of the student body reported having been victims of sexual abuse, 0.6% of rape and 3.6% of sexual harassment. We did not find significant differences (p>.05) between sexes in the variables of abuse, rape and harassment studied except for the mentioned frequency of harassment where there are in fact differences (p<.05). CONCLUSIONS: Even though the results show low percentages of sexual violence, this exists and keeps on being relevant. Health professionals must develop programs to reduce this sexual risk focused both on victims and abusers.
