Abstract

This paper draws a distinction between mainstream and restricted publishing circuits to analyze how a best-selling Galician author has been introduced to the French-speaking audience and the channels followed by his narrative in hard copy format. The work of the writer and journalist Manuel Rivas (A Coruña, 1957) has been analyzed by literary critics (Vilavedra, 2000 & 2010 and Vaz, 2006) and studied by specialists in translation such as Malingret Laurence (1995) and Vicente Araguas (2006), who have dealt with the diachronic effect caused by this reception phenomenon on the source culture. The paper focuses on the key issues facilitating the acceptance of Rivas’ work by different publishers and mediators in the French-speaking world.
