Resumo

In the analytical framework of the effects of the large transport infrastructure on economic development, we consider the role and endowment of land and air infrastructure in the relations between Galicia and the Northern Region of Portugal, and we confirm the importance of these transport networks in the configuration of this region, both in the internal and external dimension. The role of land and air infrastructure is very different when it comes to meeting the potential demand both of passengers and of goods; while the road transport infrastructure and the airports fulfil this mission satisfactorily, in the case of rail transport the current deficit is still considerable.
