Abstract
In recent times, Muttoni et at. (1998) have proposed a refined Middle Triassic magnetostratigraphy based on biostratigraphically well constrained carbonade sequences from the Thetys realm. This together with the exhaustive revision of previous and new biostratigraphical Triassic data from the Western Peritethys Domain carried out by Diez (2000), have allowed a significant improvement in the dating of the studied upper Buntsandstein continental red bed sequences by correlation with the reference marine data.
