Resumo

This paper deals with the sedimentary variability of an exposed beach located in the outer part of the Rfa de Vigo (NW of Spain). Six beach profiles were measured every two months from November 1999 to January 2001, with an additional survey in December 2000 related with a high-energy event. Four sediment samples were gathered along each transept for grain size characterisation. Results show a great vertical variation along the whole the studied area, with the highest morphologic changes across the middle part. Volume variations indicate a good response of the beach to the weather conditions, accretion during fair weather and erosion at storm energy events, with a net loss of sediment due to the storm conditions on the second winter. Crain size increases to the subtidal zone, where follows the same tendency at accumulative periods and diminishes during erosive processes.
