Abstract
The measurements results of mesozooplankton biomass in the epipelagic waters of the Western Canary Islands during research cruise CETOBAPH 2012 in April 2012 are presented. Expressed in mg/m3 , they have showed higher values on the island of El Hierro than in the islands of La Palma and Tenerife. In the first of these islands, larger values were found in the area of the submarine volcano of La Restinga (St. 7, values of 69.44 mg/m3 of wet weight, 10.89 mg/m3 dry weight, 4.68 mg/m3 of ash content, 6.12 mg/m3 of organic matter and 4.35 mg/m3 carbon content) and its area of influence (St. 6 values of 58.65 mg/m3 of wet weight, 7.7 mg/m3 dry weight, 1.87 mg/m3 of ash content, 5.53 mg/m3 of organic material and 3.08 mg/m3 of carbon content). The average results obtained from dry weight and organic matter found in the range reported by other authors in different areas of the Canary Islands.
