Resumo

Ground-penetrating radar (GPR) is used to investigate the stratigraphy and internal sedimentarystructure of a sand barrier at Cíes Islands. Application of radar stratigraphy allows the delineationof both bounding surfaces and intervening beds. The succession of different sedimentary eventsduring the geological evolution is introduced with regard to the surfaces morphology. The succession shows three different units that correspond with a specific environment conditions. In thissense, we have identified from rocky substract upwards: basin infilling, transgressive deposits andsand barrier aggradation. The sedimentary infilling sequence was correlated with a particular sealevel state.
