Abstract
The reliability of the calculation method in the EN 12354-1:2000 norm is highly dependent of both the accuracy of input data and the characterisation of the junctions between elements. Great effort has been made to characterise such junctions; however, it is difficult to achieve a complete characterisation of them just by means of the experimental procedures described in EN ISO 10848-1:2007, due to the large variety of building elements. For the last decade, several attempts were made at characterising building elements by means of finite element method, but, due to the high computational cost, they mainly served as the basis for other less consuming methods, especially for the Statistical Energy Analysis (SEA). However, the current increase of computer capacity may reopen the path for using numerical simulation as a tool for characterising the building element behaviour, not only in general terms, but also on a case basis. This text shows some previous results, still under validation, in which the vibration reduction index Kij of some junctions has been achieved by the Finite Element Method.
