Abstract

In the current context of the pandemic a scenario emerges of a very disturbing inequality existing between men and women deriving from the disparities that have worsened during this global pandemic. This article examines the way Covid-19 has affected the gender gap that exists in science and in the repercussions it has had on the health and quality of life of female academics. Through the analysis of various studies conducted in our country, along with the international scientific literature, it is concluded that lockdown has accelerated disparities between male and female academics, mainly due to the “care gap” and the sexist division of work that still persists in academia. This has led to the deterioration and precariousness of the working conditions of female researchers: more exhaustion, fewer hours of sleep, greater fatigue, more hours of academic telework, care and reproductive work, and with less time available for themselves, and consequently, less scientific production compared to their male colleagues, with the future repercussions in wage disparities that this will entail.
