Abstract

Mass media have demonstrated a disquieting growth of cases of Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) as it is daily reported. Recent studies spotlight a new typology of IPV that has become meaningfully common: violence concerning couples of adolescents. One of the main aims that higher education seeks is to provide a quality learning process, and for this, it is necessary to pay attention to those factors that may affect that process in a positive or negative way. Along these lines, self-concept of university students as well as the appearance of certain violent behaviours and attitudes in pair relationships are two variables to bear in mind. Hence, this study aims to analyse if there is any relationship among these factors, and to determine if there are differences regarding their gender and their cultural group of belonging (European vs. Amazight). For this aim, students of the University of Granada (Campus of Melilla) participated in the study, due to the multicultural nature of the city. For the information withdrawal, the Dating Violence Questionnaire (CUVINO) and the Five-Factor SelfConcept Questionnaire (AF5) were used. The results are discussed regarding the need of implementation of prevention measures of IPV and violent behaviours that could lead to any kind of IPV.
