Abstract
The international economic crisis of 1973 generated the first serious crisis of Spain’s already worldwide tourism under Franco regime development. Even though a period of critical oscillations between 1975 and 1985, tourism significantly contributed to the Spanish economy. Thus, confirming itself as one of the key sectors of the national economic system, despite initial hesitation. Furthermore, during the expansion phase of 1986 onwards Spain confirmed itself as a tourism world-prime actor while increasing its macroeconomic results although the ongoing crisis of 1993-1995. This article aims to explain this evolution and contextualization of Spain’s success focusing on the key indicators, the and demand and, finally, the changes experienced by the tourism companies and institutions.
