Abstract
During de 90´s the rice crop expansion in Mercedes Department, Corrientes Province was beneficiated by the Mercosur creation, the nearby of Brazil and the available of superficial water which made possible to keep it in dams, the good climatic and soil conditions and the lack of alternative profitable crops. Rice crop is an activity that needs high inversions and its expansion was also stimulated by the entrance of outsiders� capitals. The aim of this job is to analyze changes and the asymmetric growth as consequence of the concentration of the property and the use of resources. For this purpose a comparison between the 1988 and 2002 Census was done and the productive and economic changes in the activities were also analyzed. Besides satellite information was used to identify different units of environments and landscapes in the Ayui sub basin and correlated this with the land registry of the zone. The results let to appreciate a sketch of a two-pole structure: big farms with managerial structure for one side and traditional farms �in average with minor size- on the other.
