Resumo

In this study the utility of magnetic susceptibility like a tool for the study of the atmospheric pollutants transfer from urban to periurban areas is evaluated. For that, several monthly samplings of Platanus hispanica and Quercus rotundifolia leaves have been done through a year in NW Madrid. Magnetic susceptibility measurements of the leaves have been done. Urban dust is accumulated on leaves surface and it contains several pollutants like metals which are responsible of the magnetic signal. An increase of the magnetic susceptibility has been observed through the time with the study of magnetic susceptibility distribution maps. This increase affects both the NW area of Madrid (with intense traffic) and the periurban area of Pozuelo (residential area). The different intensity in the magnetic signal between both areas is attributed to differences in traffic intensity.
