Resumo

The castle of San Salvador de Todea (Allariz, Ourense) was discovered in 2016 thanks to an archaeological intervention by the University of Vigo. Successive excavation and conservation campaigns have discovered the internal configuration of a «rocky» castle, as well as to recover an interesting set of materials, especially pottery. The typological study of the material, combined with the stratigraphy and radiocarbon dating, has revealed the existence of other occupations on the platform of San Salvador mount, as well as dating the castle High and Late Medieval between the 11th/12th and 14th/15th centuries approximately. In the three excavated areas (first enclosure, north door and the survey of the second enclosure) we have found the forms typically associated with the High Middle Ages, such as basins or trilobed jugs. These sets are associated with a large group of animal bones and shells, which have provided information on the eating habits of the castle’s inhabitants, as well as diverse iron artefacts. Also, previous occupations have been dated thanks to the appearance of Galician-Roman, Late Roman and Early medieval pottery.
