Abstract
In this text, I will present a summary of published results —between 2003 and 2010— of research projects (on socio-economic effect of the Prestige oil spill) that received public financing. From the joint results of these projects we conclude that the diagnosis is similar to that obtained in the past in France (Erika) or in the USA (Exxon Valdez). However, we may observe that the legal system and the responsibility framework have not fully assumed the Polluter Pays Principle like has been done, with good results, in the USA. The recent European law has not taken into account the underlying lessons derived from the socio-economic analysis that are summarized here.
