Abstract
In this article, we attempt to show that Mãe Pobre by Carlos de Oliveira constitutes an important aesthetic revolution as regards the rela-tionship between the high-brow and the popular culture: between the authorial poetry, which is inserted in the theoretical, ideological and supra-individual aesthetic framework of the Neo-realism, and the traditional poetry, which is an expression of the heritage, sensitivity, emotions, symbols and literary procedures of the community.
