Urbi et orbi. La España de la Segunda República en los archivos eclesiásticos romanos

Abstract

After the recent opening to historians of the funds related to the pontificate of Pius XII, the various ecclesiastical archives that have their headquarters in the Vatican State or in the city of Rome offer a wealth of information that allows to deepen and open new avenues in the research developed so far on the relations between the Catholic Church and the Second Republic in Spain. This article presents some clues for the strategic design of a research in such archives and suggests some of the perspectives that could be encouraged according to the new sources available. On the basis of the documentation and bibliography already published on the subject, an overview is presented of the funds accessible in Archivio Apostolico Vaticano (AAV), Archivio Storico della Segretaria di Stato- Sezione per i Rapporti con gli Stati (ASRS), Archivo Storico de Propaganda Fide, Archivio della Congregazione per la Dottrina della Fede, Archivum Romanum Societatis Iesu (ARSI) y and Istituto per la storia dell’Azione católica e del movimento cattolico in Italia Paolo VI (ISACEM).
