Abstract
The aims of this work are exploring the performance predictive capacity of talent detection tests developed by the Spanish Triathlon Federation (FETRI) and making an approach of physical tests with a better explanatory capacity. The sample to meet these objectives was selected from male and female triathletes of the categories Youth and Junior (15-19 years old) who participated in the talent detection tests developed by FETRI between the years 2009 and 2016. The tests performed are 400 and 1000 meters of running, and 100 and 1000 meters freestyle swimming. An analysis of multiple linear regression, variance and generalizability were implemented to determine the explanatory capacity of these tests in relation to the Spanish and World championships performance. The results show a low explanatory capacity of the performance in triathlon competitions (both World and Spanish level) through the tests. The greater explanatory capacity of the performance is obtained in the tests more related to the physiological performance factors associated to triathlon. Regarding the proposed model, it shows a higher explanatory capacity than the FETRI´s tests, particularly in the swimming tests: 200 and 800 meters freestyle with a one-minute break. The values obtained in the squat-jump test proposed show a high predictive capacity of swimming performance. With this thesis, the hypotheses pointing towards a low performance explanatory capacity through the FETRI tests are checked, and a review of the program´s tests seems necessary.
