Abstract

Each year, police entrance exams continue to attract the same number of participants or more than in previous years. However, in relation to the physical tests that are defined, there is a lack of standardisation and scientific evidence to justify one or other options in the state, regional and local calls for applications, bearing in mind that the Public Administrations are the first to be interested in ensuring that the selection of personnel responds to the needs of their public services. The aim was to study the characteristics of the physical tests for access to the police, comparing them in their own area and with other public emergency services. A literature search found 27 related articles, and 40 public calls for employment between 2019-2021. It was found that the most common physical tests are aerobic endurance and strength, with an average of 4.3 for access, most with 2 attempts to pass. The role of technical competence is not guaranteed within a selection board, which opens the possibility, albeit very unevenly, that a specialised assessor, usually without determining his or her qualification, can assist in the process. There is a need to further improve selection procedures in terms of physical fitness and to adjust the requirements of police forces to their own needs
