Abstract

This project stems from the need to assess the possible links existing between gambling and loot boxes, a relatively new feature present in many videogames that is nonetheless increasingly ubiquitous nowadays. In order to carry out our research, we have opted for a quantitative study. A questionnaire has been created and disseminated throughout diverse parts of Spain via social media, targeting people from ages 14 to 30. A total of 153 valid responses have been gathered. The answers reflect that up to 50.67% of those submitting a response present gambling problems and claim to purchase loot boxes. In light of these findings, the question arises as to whether loot boxes could be a gateway to gambling. Against this problem, social education can be an important aid to stop loot boxes as a gateway to gambling
