Abstract

The use of social networks among the younger generations is constantly evolving, in terms of channels, types of content, as well as in the way in which that content is shared. BeReal, a photo-sharing platform, was founded in 2020, nevertheless, it did not take off until the first quarter of 2022, when Generation Z added a new player to its two other favorite networks - TikTok and Instagram. This paper aims to draw a comparison between the three abovementioned social networks, on the basis of the most recent one, in order to define the features that determine the reasons for its current success and its future prospects. To this end, this project will be conducted in three phases: starting with a review of academic and professional literature, seeking to establish the theoretical bases and references on which to determine the characteristics of both Generation Z, the main audience of these apps, and the social networks within this group; second, the apps themselves will be analyzed, studying their operation and basic dynamics; and third, the results of a survey distributed among members of this population group will be presented, with the aim of determining their current preferences.
