Resumo

Introduction Lifestyles in university students constitute one of the main problems related to cardiovascular risk factors. Objective To describe the changes in some healthy lifestyles and cardiovascular risk factors in university students from a health school in southwestern Colombia. Materials and methods A longitudinal descriptive study was carried out in university students who underwent an anthropometric measurement and the application of a risk factor questionnaire. All participants underwent consecutive measurements in the years 2017, 2018 and 2019. Results During the measurement period, 80 students were finally linked, finding a statistically significant increase in weight, height, BMI, waist and hip circumference. There was an increase of 5.57kg in weight during the follow-up period and 3.63cm in waist circumference, evidenced in the increase in overweight and obesity in students. A high prevalence of inadequate consumption of fruits, vegetables and use of alcoholic beverages persists in all measurements. Conclusion Changes are evident in some cardiovascular risk factors such as increased body weight and waist and hip perimeters; highlights the increase in the habit of drinking alcoholic beverages and inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetables.
