Zusammenfassung
In this chapter, the procedure for cutting forces measuring during turning is given. The thermo-mechanical processes occurring in the cutting zone are theoretically analyzed. Moreover, the chapter discusses the machining mechanics and the mechanical loading on cutting tools and workpieces. The analysis pays attention to the influence of process parameters, cutting tool properties, and workpiece materials properties on the cutting forces. The monitoring procedure is designed to be carried out at the lab for a group of students. Thus, the procedure includes the setting of the measuring device and machining system, the organization of all the required resources, and the main steps for developing the session. The work describes the signal behavior and values of the cutting forces components and the influence of cutting forces on the accuracy of machining cylindrical parts during turning. The main outcomes are given, which refer to the student's knowledge of the influence of the input process parameters on the analyzed outputs, as well as on the dimensional accuracy. Finally, the chapter includes a section with questions for verifying students' knowledge.
