Teachers, students and learners of German as a foreign language often wonder what kind of literature or text material is being considered as useful during the language learning process in order to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary and the handling of certain grammar structures in context. Occasionally, we resort to using adapted literature or to writing our own texts because textbooks are overwhelmingly based on a communicative approach, offering a few number of texts, which at the same time seem to be less relevant and less attractive for the learners. The aim of this article is to open a new horizon in the research area of German as a foreign language, considering non-fiction books for children as a stimulating text material to be used in German foreign language classes or as an autodidactic material. It has been proved that this non-fiction books offer aspects which meet the needs of many learners of German as a foreign language.
