Zusammenfassung
The palaentological works around the Manzanares River in the metropolitan area of Madrid have yielded new small mammals fossil remains from three levels. We present here their fossil rodent association and a correlation of the levels with the equivalent deposits of the Calatayud-Montalbán Basin and the Madrid Basin itself. 146 dental elements belonging to the rodents have been recovered: Megacricetodon primitivus, Megacricetodon vandermeuleni, Democricetodon moralesi, Armantomys aragonensis, Microdyromys koenigswaldi, Pseudodryomys ibericus and Heteroxerus rubricati. It represents a little diverse faunistic set characterized by the predominance of the genus Megacricetodon and the scarce representation of glirids and sciurids. The faunistic set is correlated with the upper part of the Db biozone, being the first occasion recognized in the Madrid Basin. The Calatayud-Montalbán record shows more diverse rodent assemblages in biozone Db, with taxa not recorded in Madrid that are indicative of more humid or structured environments. Therefore, the Madrid associations would represent dryer or/and more open environments than the Calatayud-Montalbán associations.
