Abstract
In this article we try to analyze noble women’s role in the perpetuation of the Galician noble families at the beginning of the Early Modern Age, taking a personage from the House of Andrade, doña Violante de Andrade, as a representative example of that role. She was the daughter of Diego de Andrade, sister of Fernando de Andrade –1st count of Vilalba– and wife of don Pedro Bermúdez de Castro –first holder of the mayorazgo of the House of Montaos–. We principally focus on her involvement in the perpetuation of her own lineage and the House she joined through her marriage as well, and also her role in the taking of decisions on the matters that concern both contexts.
