Resumo

We propose a reflection on the techniques and instruments used in public relations crisis management of two oil spills: the ca se of the Prestige and the Gulf of Mexico. Separated by eight years , the political and institutional management of the crisis in both cases was very different and their re spective stages of recovery are very differents. We'll try to make a comparison on the managem ent of the situation in both cases and that's why we'll use several studies made in the Galician universities for the case of the Prestige crisis, which was analyzed from multiple points of view of communication (journalism, advertising campaigns, public relations, institutional impact, effects of propaganda, etc.). In addition, on the analysis we will research the comparisons between similar situations in the oil sector crisis, if existing in the case Prestige / Exxon-Valdez. With this research we propose to get a document with the comparison of the crisis management of both cases and clearly recognize that the main actions, tools, tactics and public relations techniques applied in each of them.
