Resumo

This chapter looks at the terminological difficulties faced by news writers when reporting on topics of current interest. It proposes the linguistic strategies needed to restate the conceptual innovations, new names, foreign words, metaphorical expressions and semantic and conceptual changes that characterise specialised terminology under consolidation in journalistic discourse. An explanation is provided on the specialised neologism concept and how to identify it in a specialised press corpus on the world economic crisis. Terminology management strategies are likewise put forward, paying special attention to the cultural peculiarities reflected in some specialised terms and in terminological metaphors.
