Resumo

This paper aims to summarise in a few pages the debate over the theory regarding the relationship between two artistic forms: Literature and Cinema. Several academic studies have been crucial in order to carry out the discussion of this historical analysis, namely those involving the comparison between Poetry and Cinema, as well as Theatre and Cinema. Furthermore, Semiology and Comparative Narratology were also discussed. All this previous knowledge has lead to the concept of ‘translation between different media’ and ‘intersemiotic transference’. This latter term coexists with several other terms which are used to label how the two artistic forms, Literature and Cinema, influence each other. To end, a method to analyse the relationship between Literature and Cinema will be provided to identify in a practical way what both art forms share.
