Abstract

Women and men share many environmental influences but they are also socialized according to different standards that affect the way they are placed in front of stressful experiences. The university context causes stress that will generate in the students a series of symptoms that will be mediated by modulating factors among which the sex of the student. In order to investigate whether there are gender differences in the suffering of stress symptoms, an observational and cross-sectional study has been conducted in a population of 264 students of the faculty of physiotherapy at the University of Vigo. The results reveal that the sex-based contrast of all the stress symptoms analyzed reach significant differences, such that always the women's averages are higher than those of the men, which supposes a worse stress management of the female population. Educational institutions must pay attention to these gender differences in order to provide sufficient resources to the female population that represents a group at higher risk of stress.
