Abstract

This paper discusses the application of Semantic Web techniques to the area of e-learning, focusing on the problematic of the intermediation among a user who looks for an educational resource and those suppliers which could offer it. More specifically, we describe a core element for taking advantage these techniques: the definition of an appropriate ontology that allows the semi-automation of intermediation processes in a distributed environment as the WWW. This ontology, named as ELEARNING-ONT, is composed by a set of sub-ontologies that eases the individual treatment of the different issues to be considered, taking into account the most relevant specifications of the e-learning standardization process.
