Resumo

Barefoot running has increased in popularity in recent years, although there is insufficient evidence on the possible advantages and disadvantages of this type of running. A bibliographic review was carried out from searches in four databases (Scopus, Web of Science, Pubmed and PEDro) using terms related to barefoot running, biomechanics and muscular activity. Barefoot running can modify biomechanical parameters of the race compared to running on roads, the type of footprint being the most notable factor. A direct clinical implication of the benefits of barefoot running cannot be extrapolated
